| Professional Biography | Deidre Baumann is the owner of Baumann & Shuldiner, a civil litigation practice. Ms. Baumann appears in both State and Federal Courts, at both the trial and appellate levels, on a wide variety of matters, including personal injury, civil rights, and employment discrimination. She was a lead counsel in the Burr Oak Cemetery litigation, having filed the first class-action suit in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Ms. Baumann graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Law in 1992, receiving that year, the Rickert Award for Excellence in Public Service. Immediately after sitting for the Bar Examination, she began working as an intern at the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, where she assisted with felony jury trials. After leaving the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, she began working at a small boutique firm specializing in First Amendment law, where she represented persons restrained from engaging in constitutionally protected speech. In 1996, Ms. Baumann opened her own law office where she continued to litigate issues of constitutional import.

She currently serves on the boards of directors of the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago, the Decalogue Foundation, and the Lawyer’s Club of Chicago. She is past president of the Decalogue Society of Lawyers and the North Suburban Bar Association and has served on the Executive Boards for the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois and the Chicago Bar Association, Alliance for Women. She is currently chair of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee of the Illinois State Bar Association, is vice-chair for the General Practice and Small Firm Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association, and serves on the Federal Civil Practice Committee of the Illinois State Bar, the Public Affairs and Interfaith Committees with the Chicago Bar Association and has served as the Chair of the Constitutional Law Committee and Planning Committee for a Seminar on Hate Speech. In addition, she was appointed by the Chicago Bar Association, Board of Managers, to the Judicial Re-Map Subcommittee as well as the Anti- Terrorism Legislation Task Force. |
