2026 BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT:

AZAR ALEXANDER

Azar Alexander is in-house counsel at The Northern Trust Company, with a primary focus on global litigation, regulatory enforcement, and internal investigations. He advises on complex disputes and investigations, working closely with internal stakeholders to assess risk and manage litigation across jurisdictions.

Before moving in-house, Azar practiced at leading law firms and served as a law clerk in both federal and state courts, including a federal clerkship on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit with the Honorable Damon J. Keith. Judge Keith’s legacy as a jurist and civil rights leader had a lasting influence on Azar’s understanding of the law as a tool for accountability and social change. Azar earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington, Seattle, completed post-baccalaureate studies at Loyola University Chicago, and received his Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law.

Deeply committed to service and leadership within the legal profession, Azar serves on the Executive Board of LAGBAC, an organization that advances diversity, mentorship, and inclusion. His advocacy has also included work related to compassionate release and wrongful conviction, areas that disproportionately impact communities of color. In addition, Azar volunteers as a judge for national moot court competitions through the American Bar Association, supporting the development of future advocates.
