2026 BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT:
Marcell A. Taylor
Marcell A. Taylor is an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County with extensive courtroom experience handling complex felony matters. A graduate of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, he has built a career rooted in fairness, professionalism, and the principle that every individual should be treated with dignity and evaluated based on their unique circumstances.
In addition to his litigation work, Marcell is deeply engaged in legal education and professional development. He is a frequent instructor and guest lecturer, notably providing expert insight into 4th Amendment law and its evolving relationship with digital privacy. His teaching extends to the national level, where he has provided specialized training at both Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) conferences and National District Attorney Association (NDAA) seminars, focusing on digital discovery and investigations.
Marcell is also a dedicated mentor to the next generation of legal professionals. He actively coaches both high school and law school mock trial teams throughout the Chicago area and has worked with Minority Legal Education Resources (MLER) to support aspiring and early-career attorneys. Within the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, he is an active participant in the office’s Employee Resource Groups, and he remains an engaged member of the National Black Prosecutors Association (NBPA).
Marcell’s work is informed by a steadfast belief in access to justice, thoughtful decision-making, and the importance of a legal system that serves all communities with integrity and respect. He approaches his role as a public servant with humility, preparation, and a commitment to continuous growth and public trust.
