2025 BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT:
RAYMOND RUSHING
Raymond Rushing is Corporate Counsel of Global Litigation at Cummins Inc. Before joining Cummins, he spent six years at national and global law firms guiding clients through complex product liability, toxic tort, and commercial litigation matters.
Raymond’s legal career began as a social security judicial law clerk for the Honorable Maria Valdez of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He later shared his expertise as an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
A passionate advocate for community service, Raymond lives by the motto “be better and do better.” He made history as the first openly gay president of the Cook County Bar Association – the nation’s oldest association of African American lawyers and judges. He also sits on the board of BUILD, a leading Chicago organization focused on gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development.
His work has not gone unnoticed. In 2021, Raymond was recognized as a “40 Under Forty Illinois Attorneys to Watch” by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer. In 2024, he was appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness.
When he’s not practicing law or giving back to the community, Raymond channels his entrepreneurial spirit into his latest venture – Chunky Ray’s, a cookie business bringing decadent treats to Chicago and beyond at chunkyrays.com.
