2025 BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT:
Brittany J. Whitfield
Brittany J. Whitfield serves as an appellate prosecutor for the State of Illinois. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Brittany earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Xavier University in Oak Lawn, Illinois, before obtaining her Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois.
While Brittany’s professional focus lies in criminal appeals, she is also committed to giving back to the community. In her free time, she serves as a recurring tutor for the Minority Legal Educational Resources (MLER) bar preparation program, which is dedicated to enhancing the passage rates of minority candidates on the National Bar Exam. Brittany also contributes her time and expertise to various organizations, including the Black Women Lawyers Association (BWLA) of Greater Chicago, the Living Beyond Our Dreams (LBOD) Foundation, and the Lindblom Alumni Association.
In 2024, she was recognized by the National Black Lawyers Top 100 as part of the “Top 40 Under 40” list. A former co-chair of the Cook County Bar Association’s LGBTQ+ section, Brittany continues to utilize her organizational skills to foster collaboration and unity within professional communities. Recently, she was selected as a Class Liaison by the Lindblom Alumni Association. In addition, Brittany shares her passion for sports by coaching a high school girls’ basketball team, helping to inspire the next generation of athletes.
